Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD)

FMD is a contagious disease caused by a virus that affects even-toed ungulates such as cattle, goats, sheep, and buffalo. This virus spreads easily, especially when animal movement increases leading up to Eid al-Adha.

Characteristics of animals affected by FMD:

1. High fever (39-41°C)

2. Decreased appetite

3. Limping and looking weak

4. Excessive salivation or foaming at the mouth

5. Blisters on the tongue, nose, and around the mouth

Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD)

LSD is a skin disease known as "lato-lato" disease in livestock caused by the Capripox virus. This disease is characterized by lumps on the skin that can develop into open sores.

Characteristics of animals affected by FMD:

1. A lump appears on the skin that becomes a scab or wound

2. The animal looks thin and lethargic

3. The quality and quantity of meat decreases
